There is a clear implication in that article that the ban on abortion in Ireland is driven by men. See the line “but, sure, we’ll just ignore that, will we lads?”.
I’d love to see some numbers to back this up. Based on my own (non statistically trackable) evidence canvassing on the streets of Ireland the most vocal opponents to abortion in Ireland are older women. Would it change the feminist perspective on abortion in Ireland if this is true, rather than it being some male conspiracy?
Now abortion is a complex and difficult area, where many people have demonstrated an unreasonable level of unwillingness to actually engage in discussion so I’m not offering any thoughts on the subject itself, rather on the rather nasty swipe at the “lads”, who may or may not be driving the issue in Ireland at all.
