Hooray for Jennifer Sleeman, the 81 year old woman from Clonakilty who has decided to run in election 2011.  Ms Sleeman received considerable notice last year when she led a one-day Mass boycott in September 2010 to protest at the Catholic Church’s treatment of women.  Thousands of people from around the world contacted her to lend their support to her campaign.    

Ms Sleeman, who is a founding member of the Green Party, was also instrumental in bringing Fair Trade status to the town of Clonakilty.  She will be running for a seat in Cork South West.  It just shows you  – you’re never too old for politics.
