Women’s Rights
On 3 March, 2011, An Post issued 2 stamps commemorating Women’s Rights. One stamp marks the centenary of International Women’s Day. The other celebrates the founding of the Irish Women’s Suffrage Federation.

One of the most used arguments against introducing gender quotas in Irish politics is that women would become “token politicians” if they were elected under such a system. Recent appointments of ministers in the new government strongly indicate that women are being appointed as “tokens” already by party-leaders Enda and Eamon.
